E-Petit Porteur, the electrified Petit Porteur

It must be admitted, before looking at the subject, in the Petit Porteur team we weren’t fans of pedelecs.

We tested various solutions and found the best solution for our Petit Porteur.

We designed Le Petit Porteur as simple and reliable. It is also this path that we followed for the electrified version.

For this, the electrified version is based a motor integrated in the front wheel, and we will explain why …

Le Petit Porteur exists in an already electrified version, but we also offer a conversion kit to simply electrify your Petit Porteur.

You can also electrify your Petit Porteur yourself using your own components (hub motor or middle motor like Bafang BBS01). The fork has been sized to accept powerful motors without the need for a torque arm.

You want advice on the electrification of your Petit Porteur ? Do not hesitate to contact us.

A front hub motor ?

We have selected the Bafang 250W motor offering a torque of 45 N.m

It’s a simple and reliable solution as we like it.

It should be known that the electric assistance of a bicycle provides a significant power which must be transmitted by the mechanics of the bicycle. In the case of an engine located in the crankset, it is the entire transmission of the bicycle (chain, chainring, sprockets) which is subjected to much greater constraints than those encountered on a non-electric bicycle. This type of transmission therefore requires regular revisions and changes of parts.

Advantages of a front wheel motor

The front wheel motor is protected from all problems encountered with solutions based on a middle motor:

  • Frequent maintenance
  • Settings
  • Wear of components (chain, sprockets)

This type of motor is also known to be very reliable.

This solution is compatible with all types of transmission (derailleur or geared hub).

Disadvantages of a front wheel motor

The main criticism of the hub motor concerns the power transmitted to the ground limited compared to a middle motor.

It’s true, but the Petit Porteur’s small wheels keep good power unlike bikes with large wheels.

On the other hand, this disadvantage compared to the middle motor will be felt mainly on mountain bike type bikes. In urban use, the hub motor is perfectly suited.

250W Front wheel hub motor

As we have explained, this solution seems to us the simplest and most reliable.

36V / 14.5Ah Battery

A standard format battery, easy to find and replace if necessary. 14.5Ah offering between 40 and 80 km of autonomy. For optimal integration, the motor controller is included in the battery holder.

LCD Display

A display giving essential information and allowing to choose the level of assistance (5 levels). Why make it more complicated?

The assistance of the bicycle is controlled by a sensor which detects the rotation of the crankset. You pedal, the engine starts instantly. You stop pedaling or brake and assistance stops immediately. It’s as simple as that.

The E-Petit Porteur is electric but you still have to pedal

To comply with the regulations of Pedelec (from pedal electric cycle), the assistance of the bicycle must be subject to pedaling.

And while pedaling, you keep the pleasure of cycling 😉

For this reason, we have not equipped the bicycle with an accelerator on the handlebar. Anyway we would not have put one. It makes less component and less wires always in our desire to design a system as simple as possible.

Fewer components means less risk of breakdowns!

And a Pedelec is above all a bicycle. It is neither a scooter nor a motorcycle. The motorization is not dimensioned to operate continuously at full power. To avoid any risk of overheating of the controller and / or motor, do not allow yourself to be passively carried away by your bicycle. A muscular contribution is necessary, including in the climbs.
